Man Dies During Rafting Trip
A whitewater rafting trip ended badly Sunday on the west branch of the Penobscot river, just north of Millinocket.
Cruz and four others were thrown from the raft while going through a rapid.
When Cruz was pulled back into the boat a short time later, he lost consciousness.
Wardens think Cruz may have experiened a medical problem.
He was transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The state medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy.
There’s no word yet on a cause of death.
Wardens say Cruz’s fifteen and seventeen-year-old sons were in the raft when their father died.
