Bush Departs On Asian Trip
U.S. President George W Bush on Monday left the White House for a weeklong trip to Asia, which is also his last visit to the region as the US President. The first couple boarded Air Force One on Monday at Andrews Air Force Base en route to South Korea, Thailand and China.
President Bush will travel to Bangkok on Wednesday where he is to deliver a major policy speech. There, he will meet with Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and some Burmese dissidents.
Bush will then leave for China on Thursday, where he is to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. Bush will remain in China for four days and is expected to meet with various senior Chinese leaders including President Hu Jingtao.
White House officials said Monday that President Bush would discuss a range of issues with the Chinese leaders including the issues over human rights in China, oppression in Tibet and China’s support for the rogue regimes in Myanmar, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
