WT students to talk about trip

Twenty West Texas A & M University students who recently traveled to Poland will share their travel experiences at a public forum on Monday.

The event is scheduled for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Branding Iron Theatre in WT’s Sybil B. Harringon Fine Arts Complex. It is free and open to the public.

The students, all freshmen, went to Poland during spring break as part of the WT’s common readership program, Readership WT.

This year’s Readership WT selection, “Night,” is an autobiographical account of Elie Wiesel’s experiences in Nazi concentration camps during World War II.

Wiesel was imprisoned in Auschwitz and Buchenwald Nazi concentration camps, which are in Poland.

Wiesel spoke at WT’s freshman convocation last fall as part of Readership WT.

The program also sponsored an essay contest for freshmen.

The essay winners were selected to retrace Wiesel’s steps in an expenses-paid trip to Poland.

Also on Monday, WT plans to announce the title of the book for next year’s common readership program.
