Local senior citizens enjoy ’space’ trip
John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi was the destination for 188 Jefferson Parish Golden Age Club members who participated in their yearly mystery trip this month.
Humana sponsored the trip, which began with the members boarding four chartered buses at local playgrounds, unaware of the adventure ahead of them.
“They have faith that we will give them an interesting experience, and that is why they come,” Chiasson said.
“They were impressed with the technology,” Chiasson said. “Many of our members had fought in the second World War, and they were most impressed to see what technology had produced.”
Guides boarded the buses to give each group a narrated tour of the facility, followed by a walking tour of the visitors center.
“It is so worth the visit,” Chiasson said. “It is worth the time for any family to make a trip and a day of it.”
After the tour, the senior citizens ate lunch at a restaurant in Picayune, Miss. After shopping and a stop at a roadside fruit stand in Picayune, they returned home.
