Fish and chip oil fuels newlyweds’ road trip
It is understood they are the first people to use recycled vegetable oil as a fuel alternative on a trip around Australia.
Australian-born civil engineer Gerard Mimmo and his British wife Rachel are also carbon offsetting their trip with tree planting.
The trip started eight days ago in Sydney and the couple are now heading to Fraser Island.
Mr Mimmo says climate change is a big issue and people are looking for environmentally friendly alternatives.
“It’s caught on in a sense and it’s probably not widely known, and doing our trip and getting some publicity hopefully will spread the news and it will catch on a lot quicker,” he said.
The couple is aiming to collect vegetable oil from fish and chip shops as they travel across the country.
