Soccer-Euro-Hungary trip ‘perfect test’ for Croat ambitions
Croatia face a perfect test away to in-form Hungary in their final Euro 2008 warm-up on Saturday, assistant manager Aljosa Asanovic said on Friday.
“The match is the final assessment of our abilities before the European championship and it will show how much progress we have made in training,” Asanovic told reporters in Croatia’s training base in Slovenia.
The Croats have last eight ambitions and Asanovic said: “It will be a perfect test because Hungary are a good team and they demonstrated their quality in a 3-2 win over European champions Greece in a recent friendly.
“We have worked very hard, these lads have a strong mentality and we are ready to make an impact in Austria and Switzerland. This team has a bright future but we want success now and our Euro 2008 ambitions are very high.”
With coach Slaven Bilic off to see Austria’s final warm-up against Malta in Graz later on Friday, Asanovic will be in charge for the game against Hungary.
According to Croatian media, the team he named for the friendly is likely to start Croatia’s opening Group B fixture against the Austrians in Vienna on June 8.
Croatia also play Germany in Klagenfurt on June 12 and Poland at the same venue four days later.
