Posada on DL shoulder may need surgery
That same shoulder cost him more than a month earlier this season. Newsday says that surgery has not been ruled out yet, and that if an operation is required, Posada will miss the rest of the season.
Since returning from the DL on June 5, Posada has been limited in his catching duties, playing mostly as the DH and some at first base, which hasn‘t been much of a sign that his shoulder had completely healed. Plus, Posada is hitting just .248 with two home runs since returning to the lineup another sign that he is still hurting.
At this point, fantasy owners will be without Posada for at least another two weeks. Jose Molina has been getting most of the time behind the plate, and it sounds like he’ll continue to do most of the catching if Posada does indeed need more time off. But Molina won’t help Posada-less fantasy owners offensively. Go with whatever alternate catching option you used during Posada’s first DL stint, if still available, and keep him close for the rest of the season.
