Hunting agent who set trip for Houston billionaire acquitted

A federal jury Wednesday acquitted a Virginia hunting agent on charges stemming from a Siberian trip with Houston billionaire Dan Duncan.

Robert Kern and his company, The Hunting Consortium, were accused of breaking a federal law that prohibits importing wildlife knowingly taken in violation of another country’s laws.

Jurors had deliberated a combined seven hours since Tuesday, the Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition.

Duncan and other hunters, who were not charged, testified they thought the trip was legal because the meat was donated to Russian residents.

Kern had faced up to five years in prison if convicted.
