Excerpts from recent Illinois Editorials
The panel nobody noticed — or needed.
The story earlier this week on the Governor’s Commission on
Discrimination and Hate Crimes begged the age-old,
tree-falling-in-the-forest question: If a commission never meets,
does anyone notice?
The commission hasn‘t met in two years, because it fell apart
after the director, Kimberly M. White, invited the members to hear
a speech by her boss, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
In front of the assembled commissioners, Mr. Farrakhan
reportedly made disparaging remarks about Jews and gays. (Really,
you can’t make this stuff up.)
