Casilla will be in tow for road trip
“Everything went good,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “Lefty, righty he hit both ways. Everything feels good, he played well.”
The Twins now have good middle-infield depth for the first time in recent memory. In addition to Casilla’s availability, shortstop Adam Everett told Gardenhire that he was ready to return for the road trip. Everett missed two games after being struck on the right hand by a Nick Punto foul ball in the sixth inning of Monday’s game. X-rays revealed no broken bones and the club called the injury a “deep bruise.”
Gardenhire now has Casilla, Punto, Everett and Brendan Harris to play second base and shortstop, and Harris also gets time at third base against left-handed starters. Gardenhire previously indicated that Casilla would reclaim his starting second-base position while the club shifts Punto back to shortstop. The latter move would lead to a platoon between Punto and Everett.
