Yokley Murder Trial Leaves Courtroom for Field Trip
Jurors watched as an officer marked points that matched testimony from several eyewitnesses. Prosecutors requested the trip to give the men and women a better idea of what the crime scene looked like. One longtime Chattanooga defense attorney called the rare move a good one.
“It doesn’t happen very often and there are certain cases where I think it would give the jury a better perspective of what happened,” said Attorney Lloyd Levitt. “Sometimes a witness claims they saw something and you’d want to have jury look at the angle or view that witness said they saw incident from.”
Back in the courtroom, testimony continued after the trip. One eyewitness testified that he and his family sped out of the park when someone started shooting.
“I heard gunshot and I looked over that way and I saw the gun and I turned and ran and hollered ‘get us out of here, he’s shooting at him,’” Henry McCurdy said.
The man’s daughter said she heard three gunshots ring out as they drove away.
“It was like bam, bam, bam and my father dove into van and we were trying to get out of there as soon as possible,” Terri Blanchard testified.
