Worker accused of sex with teen
He was remanded to a pre-trial conference in the High Court at Christchurch on March 14 with a bail condition that he is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with girls aged under 16, the Christchurch Court News website reported.
He has now changed his job, but neither his name, nor his previous occupation, nor the organisation that he worked for can be published because of interim suppression orders that were imposed or continued in Christchurch District Court yesterday.
Three witnesses were called at the half-day depositions hearing, and other evidence was handed up in written form to Judge Raymond Kean.
A witness told the court that when the girl took up residence with the organisation, staff were told by email that there were concerns about her forming relationships with older men for drugs and sex.
Police prosecutor Todd Nicholls said evidence would be called of the accused paying extra attention to her, texting her, and having oral sex with her when she was with his organisation, and later having intercourse when they met in Auckland when she was still aged 15.
A close friend of the girl who was also at the organisation, told how the older man met her later, and went to the movies with her. While there, he showed her pictures of the girl naked, which were stored on his pocket computer.
I didnt really mind, said the girl. Its not my business.
When they were at the organisation, the man would discuss his old girlfriends with the two girls, and talk about what he had done sexually with them and how he had pleased them.
After his trip to Auckland, he told that girl that he and the complainant had had sex. He had been on crutches at a time because of a tendon injury and told her that it must have been the worst sex the girl had ever had, she told the court.
A friend of the man told of looking on a cellphone that the man had left at his house. He found pictures of a girl aged 14 or 15, naked and in explicit poses.
He said the man arranged for letters to arrive at his house, while he was going through a divorce. One of the letters was never picked up and was handed to the police. It was from the girl complainant and spoke about them going for sex.
Witnesses said the girl would also pay extra attention to the older man, and spoke of how she had a crush on him.
The complainant did not give evidence at the hearing. It was handed to the judge in written form.
