Woman finds her son trapped in car on cliff edge

Danny Milne, 39, of Kumara, spent Sunday night upside down in his car with a broken hip and ribs after driving off the road near Rocky Point, west of Otira.
Milne was returning from a trip to Christchurch and was expected home about midnight.
His mother, Ada Milne, said she woke about 1am yesterday and was concerned her son had not returned home.
She rang the police and hospitals, then spent the night pacing the house.
In the morning, when her son had still not returned, she headed off to search for him with her daughter-in-law and a family friend.
They drove about 100km, between Kumara and Arthurs Pass, searching the roadside for any sign of Danny Milnes car.
At Rocky Point, Ada Milne saw a cars skidmarks on the road.
I screamed out to (the driver) to stop and jumped out of the car and started screaming, she said. Danny must have heard me and started banging on the car. She flagged down a passing truck and the driver called police and the rescue helicopter.
Im the happiest mum around, she said.
It was pretty stressful not knowing where he was.
Her son was flown by the Westpac rescue helicopter to Greymouth Hospital, where he was in a stable condition last night.
He would be tranferred to Christchurch Hospital today for surgery, his mother said.
Sergeant Lindsay Turner, of the police Southern Communications Centre, said police were investigating the crash.
