Pets need to be insured from birth
Animal lovers should ensure their pets are covered in their first year because that is “probably the most dangerous time” for them, according to John Bower, former president of the British Veterinary Association (BVA).
Mr Bower claims that pets should be healthy before a pet insurance policy is taken out because when you compare insurance policies, premiums are more expensive for animals with pre-existing medical conditions.
Pet owners should insure their animals before they reach eight as most insurers will not cover pets after reach that milestone, claims Mr Bower.
Research by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals revealed that 30 per cent of the dogs in the UK are now overweight.
