Jr. High Wrap-Up

Rallying from a 9-1 deficit after five innings, the Benton Middle School Rangers came all the way back to knock off Frankfort, 10-9, in eight innings Tuesday at Benton Community Park.

Benton scored eight times in the sixth to tie the game 9-9 and force extra innings.

BMS (1-1) won the game in the eighth when Cole Forby led off the frame with a triple, scoring on a 2-out single off the bat of Bennett Page.

Forby led the offense, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Ethan Hughes was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Page was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Cameron Rock was 1 for 4.

Page pitched three shutout innings for Benton, picking up the win.

BMS will play at Carbondale Thursday.

Benton Middle School fell 13-5 to Du Quoin in its softball season opener on Monday.

Du QUoin scored 11 runs over the first three innings to take control early.

Nikita Benns and Jordan Wills both singled in the fourth, scoring on Kristin Odom’s 2-run triple, cutting the lead to 11-4 and Bailey Wynn had a double in the fifth.

BMS was scheduled to host Frankfort Tuesday and will play at Carbondale on Thursday.

Christopher Jr. High dropped two games this week, falling to Hamilton County, 19-5, and to Waltonville, 10-0.

Christopher scored single run in the first three innings and scored twice in the fourth against HamCo.

Katie Bennett scored in the first inning on hits by Kailey Allen, Ashton Beaver, and Morgan Patchett. Alisha Clay scored in the second inning on a hit by Emily Gossett. Bonnie Penshorn pinch ran for Ashton Beaver and scored in the third on a hit by Alisha Clay.

Emily Gossett got a hit and Paige Rodgers walked in the fourth, both scoring on hits by Beaver and Morgan Patchett.

Bennett and Rodgers both pitched, with Alisha Rodgers and Holly Vallette sharing the catching duties.

Beaver was 3 for 3 to lead the offense, with Gossett and Clay going 2 for 2. Patchett was 2 for 3, with Bennett and Allen hitting safely.

Against Waltonville, Gossett picked up Christopher’s only hit in the first, but was stranded. Bennett also walked in the inning, but those were the only two baserunners on the day for the Lady Bearcats.

Bennett pitched the full five innings and only allowed five walks and five hits, striking out four. Alisha Rodgers was the catcher.
