Craig tackles Japan on foot
The 27-year-old Takapuna man hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada last year, and this time will start at the southern tip of Japan and finish at its northern cape.
His route will take him through mixed terrain and over mountain peaks, including the Japanese Alps.
Mr Stanton says he didn%26rsquo;t want to sit at his desk all day.
There are shrines and temples to see and hot springs to sit in. It would be great if there was one at the end of each day walking, he says.
I%26rsquo;m a bit nervous about the weather. I%26rsquo;ve heard there are cruel winters in the north with drift ice and snow storms.
Mr Stanton has been told there are bears and poisonous snakes in the north but he%26rsquo;s not too worried and says he will deal with them when he comes across them.
He chose Japan for his trek because it is a very polite place with a lot of history.
It also has symbolic meaning he will visit the castle in Kyoto where he took his first steps as a toddler.
He hopes that by the time he finishes his trip he will be fluent in the language.
