Bees Open Nine-Game Road Trip with Win over Loons
The Burlington Bees opened a nine-game road trip with a 5-3 victory over Great Lakes Wednesday night at Dow Diamond. Johnny Giavotella had three hits for the third consecutive game while Juan Abreu picked up his second win of the season pitching four innings out of the bullpen.
The Loons scored the first run of the ballgame by scoring one run in bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Bees answered that run in the top of the sixth inning. Johhny Giavotella led the inning off with a double and moved to third on a ground-out. Giavotella then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at a run apiece.
The Bees scored another two runs in the top eighth inning. David Lough led the inning off by hitting his sixth home runs of the season. Kyle Martin then hit a double, moved to third on a Jamar Walton single and then scored on a Rivera sacrifice fly to give the Bees a 5-1 lead. The Loons did come back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a two-run game but that was as close as Great Lakes would get.
Giavotella finished the game 3-5. Walton had three hits while Robinson had two RBI. Danny Duffy got the start for the Bees and was pretty good pitching five innings allowing just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Abreu picked up his second win of the season allowing two runs in four innings of work.
